SEAT hints at new Nurburgring lap record
Wed, 12 Feb 2014Repeated references to the Nurburgring during the press conference at the launch of the new SEAT Leon Cupra strongly suggest that the 280hp hot hatch has broken the front-wheel drive lap record. SEAT is waiting until the 2014 Geneva Motor Show before saying any more, but has already hinted that its new Leon Cupra is significantly faster than the current Renaultsport Megane record holder. With that in mind we get the arrival of the Mercedes C-Class AMG Sport Edition to try and carry the existing C-Class sales mantle until the arrival of the all new C-Class in the summer. The AMG Sport Edition sees the demise of the existing AMG Sport and AMG Sport Plus and can be had as a saloon, estate or coupe and comes with an AMG bodykit, lowered suspension, AMG steering wheel and alloys, gloss black grill, boot spoiler and dark tinted headlights.

The company already plans an electric Infiniti to piggyback the EV learnings from parent firm Nissan, whose Leaf is the first mainstream electric car built from scratch. But this new sports car will pack a range-extender system, with a petrol or diesel engine to charge the battery when charge gets low.
