Microsoft Windows in the Car to rival Apple CarPlay

Microsoft Microsoft has announced a concept version of the Windows operating system aimed at in-car entertainment for the connected car. Although details are limited at this stage, 'Windows in the Car' is set to challenge the already confirmed Apple CarPlay and Google’s Open Automotive Alliance, which is also aiming to bring the Android OS into vehicles. Ford UK, and product development publication DEVELOP3D, have announced details of a new competition, asking designers to create a concept for a future Ford steering wheel. The competition is open to UK-based designers from all industries, and submissions should be emailed in the form of digital sketches or hand-drawn images. The deadline is 7 November, 2014.

When we reported that the Saab Museum – and all its cars – was up for sale last week to try and bring in a few coppers to fill the black hole that is the Bankrupt Saab’s finances, it looked as if the historic collec tion – which includes the very first Ursaab – was destined to be broken up. The fate of the Saab Museum seemed to be to be scattered to the four corners of the globe as each car was sold to the highest bidder, but it’s been revealed that the entire collection - including the Museum building - has been saved for the Swedish nation.
