1957 Ferrari 250 TR (Testa Rossa) smashes world auction record

Ferrari 250 TR - Reached a world record price at today's Leggenda e Passione sale at Maranello We brought you news back in February that high-end Car Auctioneers R.M. Auctions were offering for sale an extremely rare 1957 Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa at the Ferrari Leggenda e Passione sale in Maranello today. Well, the sale went as planned, because the Ferrari 250 TR sold for a world auction record €9,020,000, beating the previous record by €1,980,000.

In 1962, Mercedes-Benz launched a research program to investigate the development of the Wankel rotary engine and its potential both on the road and track. While the early mule wasn't a looker, the prototype's design continued to evolve until a public unveiling of the C111-I concept, designed by Bruno Sacco, at the 1969 Frankfurt motor show. The coupé may have looked like the systematic further development of the Sport Light models from the ‘50s with its gullwing doors, but it wasn't a design study for a new SL.

Vuhl 05 is a Mexican Ariel Atom – costs from £66,000

The Vuhl 05 (pictured), track-focused road car, has been revealed The Vuhl 05 – which has been teased recently – was unveiled this afternoon in London as Mexico’s answer to the Ariel Atom. The Vuhl 05 uses a bonded monocoque with honeycomb panels and aluminium covered on plastic panels to keep weight down to just 695kg. That means that even though the Vuhl 05 has only 285bhp available from its mid-mounted 2.0 litre turbo Ford EcoBoost engine, it can still get to 62mph in 3.7 seconds thanks to a power to weight ratio of 400bhp per tonne.
