Glickenhaus may enter LMP1 class at Le Mans
Wed, 19 Sep 2012James Glickenhaus, the man who brought you the Ferrari P4/5, is working on a new car to be used in top-level endurance racing such as the 24 Hours of Le Mans, possibly as early as 2014. Recently, sketches of the car—currently called the P4/5 Competizione LMP—have made their way to the Internet. Glickenhaus made his money in the stock market and film industry, but he became a household name among car guys when he commissioned the one-of-one Ferrari P4/5 Pininfarina.
Hyundai arrives in Piccadilly Circus
Thu, 29 Sep 2011Hyundai arrives in Piccadilly Circus If you want a clear sign of how mainstream Hyundai has become, the news that it’s taken over the iconic billboard display in Piccadilly Circus from Sanyo is as much evidence as you need. Piccadilly Circus is the UK version of Times Square, and the neon signs have been a splash of international colour washing over Eros for a century, during which time there have been just fifty brands showcasing their wares to the 50 million or more passing Londoners – and visitors – every year, not counting the millions more who see the signs on Piccadilly Circus postcards that still wing their way round the world. The new Hyundai spot – which has been the Sanyo space for the last 33 years – is the last of the spaces to rely on neon lights to get its message across.
Puegeot win at Le Mans – Audi third
Mon, 15 Jun 2009Peugeot drivers celebrate their 1-2 at Le Mans The winning Peugeot (#9) was driven by Alexander Wurz, David Brabham and Marc Gene, whilst second place was taken by Sébastien Bourdais, Franck Montagny and Stéphane Sarrazinin in car #8, just one lap behind, and five laps in front of Audi’s #1 car driven by Allan McNish, Rinaldo Capello and Tom Kristensen. In fact, the Audi car #1 (the other Audi entries had fallen by the wayside) finished just one lap ahead of Lola Aston Martin’s #007 car. The usual racing excuses were out in full, with Audi claiming that the cancellation of the traditional testing day this year meant they were unable to set up the R15 TDI properly in time for the race (Peugeot seemed to manage to get the 908s ready!).
