Design-firm boss Sergio Pininfarina dies after long illness

Sergio Pininfarina, who ran the famous Italian automotive design company of the same name for 40 years, has died after a long illness. He was 85. Pininfarina had the last word on the company's design projects for almost 50 years.

Porsche purchases Andial performance brand

Porsche announced on Thursday that it has purchased the legendary Andial name that has become a staple in the realm of Porsche racing and performance tuning. In 1975, the late Arnold Wagner (AN), Dieter Inzenhofer (DI), and former Porsche Motorsport North America president and current consultant Alwin Springer (AL) came together to build Andial (an anagram of the principals names), a successful and respected independent authority on Porsche-performance tuning. Since the last active owner, Inzenhofer, is retiring later this month, timing was ripe for Porsche to jump in and offer to carry the Andial torch.

Subaru launches production of BRZ, Scion FR-S coupes in Japan

Subaru on Friday officially launched production of the rear-drive BRZ sports coupe in its Gunma Main Plant factory in Japan. The plant also builds the Toyota version--which will be sold as the Scion FR-S in the United States--as the Toyota 86 in Japan and as the Toyota GT-86 in Europe.
