Renault-Nissan and Mitsubishi to join forces

MITSUBISHI and the existing Renault-Nissan alliance are set to work together on a series of new cars. Discussions aren’t finished but as part of the deal Mitsubishi will get hold of a Renault chassis large enough to use as a base a full-size saloon for the North American market. The firms will also further develop an electric version of a Japan-only ‘kei car’.

2012 Toyota Prius - on sale in March The mildly revised 2012 Toyota Prius arrives in the UK. Starting at £21,350 it offers a mild cosmetic tweak and better specification. It’s hard to get too excited about the tweaks to the 2012 Toyota Prius, as Toyota hasn’t exactly pushed the boat out to overhaul the Prius for the new year. But tweaks there are and the new Prius is ready for the UK market.

Volkswagen shows off new 1.8-liter engine for Jetta, Passat, and Beetle

Volkswagen is rolling out a new 1.8-liter turbocharged and direct-injected TSI engine which will debut in the Jetta, Beetle, and Passat later this year. This thrifty new engine will replace the 2.5-liter five-cylinder engine now available in those models. But the 1.8-liter is no slouch: it produces the same 170 hp as the outgoing five-cylinder engine, while adding 7 lb-ft torque for a total of 184.
