I have been parting out this 05 Dodge Stratus. I listed the engine complete and obviously, no one within driving distance from me needs a complete engine. So, I have taken it a part and listing all the parts to the engine. For 25 years this has been my specialty, engine overhaul and diagnosis. I enjoy taking an engine apart. Every engine tells a story when you disassembly it. I pretty much already knew the story this engine would tell because I bought it new and I knew it had been well taken care of. However, that doesn't always mean the inside of an engine will be in great condition. Some manufacturer errors can't be helped even if you keep up the maintenance on an engine. Buying used engine parts can be scary and you are taking a risk over new ones. But, if you know the places and signs to look for, you can save a lot of money by using used parts instead of new ones. This was my speciality, I can take any engine a part and tell you it's life story. Has the oil been changed regularly, has it overheated, is there manufacturer problems with the design. If you know the places to check, you can safely use parts from engines even if they have high miles. Most people look to buy7 parts from a low miles engine. I've seen engines with 50,000 miles look worse than engines with 150,000 miles. It's not the miles on a engine that determine how the parts will function, it's how well they were taken care of and if the manufacturer had a poor design. Some problems can't be prevented no matter how well you have taken care of an engine. I can pull the spark plugs and tell you if the engine is firing properly, if a cylinder is burning coolant or if the head gasket is blown. I can check the timing chain and componants and tell you if the oil has been changed regularly. I can remove the valve covers and see if the engine has ever over heated by the build up in the heads. I can drain the oil and know if the water pump has been leaking or replaced. most people think changing the oil is the most critical and it is important but if that engine runs hot continuously or over heats even once, no oil will stand up to the heat an engine can produce if it's not cooling properly. The rod and main bearings can tell you so much about the way an engine has been cared for. Drain holes can tell many things as well. I'm telling you all these things so you can search the other items I have listed for this engine and buy these parts with confidence, they are not new but most of the time, putting brand new parts on an engine with high miles is not a good idea. Used parts on an engine with high miles will often be a better result than new parts that put a strain on old used parts. If your going to do a complete rebuild, yes, use all new parts but if you have an engine with high miles and your just looking to extend the life of the car for another 100,000 miles, put used parts back on it and it will run smooth and the used parts will do just fine along beside of all the other used parts. Trust me, I've probably rebuilt more engines than most people have seen...LOL...a joke but probably true. I am listing all the parts to this engine and even tho I know I have taken care of this engine, it was still amzing to me to see just how good the inside of this engine actually looked. I have no complaints about the condition of any of the critical parts inside of this engine. It had many miles left on it and would have easily lasted another 150,000 miles if taken care of. There was absolutely no sludge or oil build up anywhere inside, there was no signs of over heating at all. No cylinders were performing any better or worse than the others. None of the bearings were worn any worse than the others and to be honest, not worn much at all. No brass showing on any of the bearings. I done as minimal cleaning on the parts as I could. I never liked to buy used parts that had been cleaned a lot, it always made me think, someone was trying to hide something. If the parts are good, they don't need to be cleaned to look new. most of the build up inside an engine occurs in the first 20,000 miles, if it's been taken care of, a 150,000 miles will look about the same as a 50,000 miles. I have include some pics in my listings of the bearings and or timing chain componants for you to examine the condition of the inside of the engine. They are the parts that you can look at to know how well the engine has been cared for. Any other notes about the parts will be listed below. There was no check engines lights on when I removed this engine. I parted it out due to under carriage damage, the engine has and always has run perfect. The car had 127,000 miles on it. BE SURE YOU CROSS CHECK THE PART NUMBERS WITH YOURS AND VISIBLY CHECK TO SEE IT WILL WORK ON YOUR VEHICLE. I DID NOT RESEARCH ALL THE YEARS AND MAKES TO VERIFY IT WILL WORK ON ALL YEARS LISTED. The 01 thru 06 has many of the same parts but I can't say for sure all of the parts were the same and I can't spend that much time researching and still sell the items as cheap as possible, BE SURE YOU DO YOUR RESEARCH. Please don't email me with questions about the condition of gaskets, O rings etc, using used parts is one thing but using those is a completely different animal and I wouldn't recommended even considering doing that, replace the gaskets and O rings even if they look good. Let me know if you have any questions. Visit my store if you need any parts for this engine.
