This listing is for what I believe to be a deck or trunk lid from the smaller 1929 and 1930 General Motors vehicles. I have owned lots of old car deck lids in the last 50 years or so and this lid has to be one of the nicest original lids I have ever owned.

This lid may fit the Chevrolet, Oakland, Pontiac, Oldsmobile, Viking, Marquette, Buick and McLaughlin coupes, roadsters and cabriolets. Please help me identify this hard to find nice original lid if you possibly can. I believe this lid is not reversible for use as a rumble seat lid as the Ford lids of this era were.

This lid measures 41-1/16" wide by 36-7/8" tall at both edges and 37-3/16" tall at the center. The height measurements were taken by wrapping a measuring tape over the curvature of the outside skin. The width measurements were taken using a tape stretched across the outside of this lid. The front edge is curved and is inset 3/4" at the center with respect to both outer front corners. The wood frame is 39-9/16" wide at all points.

The wood frame on the inside fits inside the trunk opening while the sheet metal on bot sides and the bottom overlaps the sheet metal quarter panels of the car. This is different from the Ford lids of this vintage that fit inside the trunk opening. The side support arms both hinge nicely at both joints. The latch is not corroded significantly and still moves freely as it should.

As you can see in the photos, this lid is not rusted through anywhere. All of the wood framing appears to be very solid and the finger joints do not appear to be loose at all. This lid could be used as it is on anything less than a top show winner restoration for which it will need to have all new wood installed. If you have or are selling a car that this lid fits, it will add considerably more value to the car than what I am asking for this lid here.

This is a truly nice original lid with no real issues other than it is missing the wood at the front, both hinges and the latch handle. The outer skin is still very nice with only a couple of hardly noticeable small and shallow dents in it. The 5th and 6th photos show some minor bent over sheet metal issues around where each hing mounted originally.

I suspect this lid hung in a barn or shed somewhere from the day around WW II when the car it was on was made into a pickup. This was often done so that the farmer could get more rationed gasoline for a truck than a car.

I have also listed another later steel framed lid here that I suspect fits the 1931 and 1932 smaller General Motors vehicles. Coys To Auction Aston Martin Linked To Bond Author Ian Fleming

Wed, 09 Jul 2014

A 1954 Aston Martin DB 2/4, considered by many to be the inspiration for James Bond’s original Aston Martin in Ian Fleming’s novel Goldfinger, is to be auctioned by international auctioneers Coys this Saturday 12th July at Blenheim Palace. Not only was the DB 2/4 potentially the catalyst for Fleming’s characterisation of the famous fictional spy, but this particular car boasts an equally intriguing history. This Aston Martin, a DB 2/4 Mk I Vantage, was owned by Phillip Ingram Cunliffe-Lister, whose father was Lord Swinton, a close confidant of Winston Churchill, head of MI5 and the Security Executive during WWII, and Ian Fleming’s boss.

XFR Jag the fastest ever

Tue, 13 Jan 2009

They took with them the usual holiday toys, but they remembered to pack a nice new Jaguar XFR, with a few mods necessary to run at Bonneville (roll cage, fire extinguishers, etc). They had a little fiddle with the ECU to derestrict it (and yield 600bhp) but, it is claimed, made no further mods apart from adding a spoiler at the back to stop the XFR taking off on the Salt Flats’ wide open spaces. Jaguar XFR breaks 225mph at Bonneville So what happened?

Volkswagen Cross Coupé: VW compact hybrid SUV Concept at Tokyo

Wed, 30 Nov 2011

Volkswagen Cross Coupé Concept at Tokyo Volkswagen to debut the VW Cross Coupe Concept at the Tokyo Motor Show, a compact hybrid SUV that’s smaller than a Tiguan and bigger than a golf. Volkswagen are taking the VW Cross Coupe to the Tokyo Motor Show this week, and it looks a bit like they’ve taken inspiration for their new car from every successful current car niche, in the hope the cross coupe will strike a chord with buyers. From the name – which VW used for the concept version of the Q3 – to a bit of SUV, a small dose of swoopy coupe all wrapped up in a crossover, the Cross Coupe appears to be conceived to be all things to all car buyers.
