BMW recalls the X3 for steering fix

BMW is recalling 50 units of the 2011 BMW X3 for a potential power-steering problem. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, a control module in the electric power-steering unit might malfunction, resulting in a sudden loss of power-steering assistance, which could lead to a crash. The suspect X3s were built between April 27 and June 8, 2011.

As America is already BMW’s biggest market place, that’s not entirely a shock, and nor is the news that the UK and Germany will be the biggest markets in Europe. After all, they’re the only major economies in Europe without huge falling markets for cars.

McQueen cajoled his wife Nellie into writing a check for $5,000 -- today around $40,000 -- and became the third owner of XKSS chassis No. 713, a car that had originally been imported a year earlier by Jaguar North America.
