Country/Region of Manufacture:United States Featured Make:1967 Buick, 1968 Buick Item Being Offered:Motor's Crash Book Illustration Featured Models:Le Sabre, Wildcat, Buick Electra, convertible

Offered are Motor's Crash Book Illustrations for the 1967 and 1968 Buick, including the Le Sabre, the Wildcat and the Electra, with reference to the convertible.

This particular set of illustrations had the distinct privilege and honor of being the first pages of one body shop's actual manual, thus the rust stain along the inner edge of the first page of this 10-page set of illustrations. Edge wear all around. Page is slightly more discolored than the rest, although still ivory in color. Only the first page is affected. The rest are unstained and in unused condition. Examine the page photo carefully as this is from the illustrations you will receive.

Back in the 1950s, '60s and '70s, before computers came into use, body and repair shops would subscribe to Motor's Crash Book Illustrations and Motor's Crash Book Service, which helped them prepare estimates on body work after a car was crashed, hence, the name "crash book." Today, collectors like them because they identify lots of parts and show exploded views of how your car's body goes together. An exploded view shows each part separately in the order that they go together. Normally, an illustration will show how both bumpers are attached, the body panels, mouldings, roof, grille, radiator and related parts, front suspension, steering linkage and some have frame diagrams with dimensions that were used in those years to "pull out" a bent frame. There is no information about the engine, tires and interior.

Also, these illustrations are not intended to replace the use of a manual for repairs. These sheets are 8 1/2" x 11", and some may feel that these illustrations are too small to be helpful. Their intent is simply to inform you about your car, and some mechanically-minded persons might find them helpful in easy repairs. Some collectors use to them to check their vehicles for all factory-made mouldings, things like that.

The photos associated with this listing come from the first of 10 pages included in this set of illustrations (five sheets of paper, printed front and back).

These illustrations address the areas of: identification, where identifying numbers for the vehicle, engine and body are located; wheel alignment and steering geometry, including toe-in, camber, caster, steering axis inclination, turning angle and wheelbase; front views, 1967 Le Sabre, the 1967 Wildcat, the 1967 Electra; exterior views, the 1968 Le Sabre, the 1968 Wildcat, the 1968 Electra; 1968 rear end mouldings for the Le Sabre and Wildcat; 1968 mouldings for the Le Sabre and Wildcat 4-door sedan; 1968 mouldings for the Electra 4-door sedan; 1968 rear end mouldings for the Electra; 1967 mouldings for the Electra convertible; 1967 mouldings for the Le Sabre and Wildcat 4-door sedan; 1967 mouldings for the Le Sabre and Wildcat 2-door hard top; 1967 rear end mouldings for the Le Sabre and Wildcat; 1967 rear end mouldings for the Electra; 4-door sedan body panels; 4-door hard top body panels; 2-door hard top body panels; convertible body panels; 1968 front bumper; 1968 grille and related parts; 1967 grille, radiator and related parts; 1968 radiator and related parts; 1967 front bumper; 1968 rear bumper for the Le Sabre and Wildcat; 1968 rear bumper for the Electra; 1967 rear bumper for the Le Sabre and Wildcat; 1967 rear bumper for the Electra; front suspension exploded; manual steering gear exploded; steering linkage; power steering gear exploded; frame diagram and dimensions.

Taken from the introduction to Motor's Crash Book Illustrations is this paragraph: "The illustrations contained in this manual ... portray assemblies and components as the automobile manufacturers portray them and serve a useful purpose in acquainting one with the relationship of each component with another. Because of limitations, the details of each component cannot always be portrayed. Therefore, all components are not always illustrated and occasionally, it is necessary to illustrate what is typical, rather than exact in detail."

These pages are actual pages from a real body shop's subscription manual. If there is a pinkish or grayish cast to the photo, this comes from the scanner and does not appear on the actual pages. These pages are ivory or cream in color. Some darkening along page edges is always possible due to shop "grime" coming to rest on the unopened manual. These pages are in good condition.

According to Vauxhall, the Zafira Tourer concept gives a strong hint at what a production version may look like. Continuing the original mindset of the practical mini MPV, the Zafira Tourer concept aims to combine the Flex7 seating arrangement with a more luxourious and ‘lounge' style environment. The Zafira Tourer adopts an Ampera-esque DRG as well as other new stylistic features.

Ferrari 458 Italia Spider leaks out. Probably.

Sat, 20 Aug 2011

Ferrari 458 Italia Spider leaks out - probably It’s only a couple of weeks since we reported that Ferrari would be taking the convertible 458 to Frankfurt, and now we have a set of three leaked photos of the Ferrari 458 Italia Spider in all its glory, doubtless leaked out from a magazine printers. We’re not completely convinced the photos of the 458 Spider are real – they seem familiar somehow and could be good Photoshops – but if they are real there’s no doubt Ferrari won’t be amused – as Italians seldom are under these circumstances. But assuming the photos are real they just tell us what we already know – the 458 Spider is the regular 458 Italia with its roof chopped off.
