The concept, which should see production in 2015, has more than 300PS (296bhp), and has shed 100kg from the standard road car’s kerbweight. That puts the Astra VXR’s mass at an estimated 1375kg.

Ford reportedly to shut down Mercury

The Mercury brand, rumored to be on the verge of death several times over the past decade, would be shut down under a plan being prepared for Ford Motor Co.'s board of directors, Bloomberg News reported on Thursday. Citing two executives who have knowledge of the plan but asked not to be identified, the news service said the plan would be submitted to Ford's board in July. How quickly Mercury would be shut down depends how quickly the automaker can convince Lincoln Mercury dealers to close or merge with a Ford-brand dealership, the report said.

These two Ford Mondeo wagons were spotted around the Detroit area this past week. While the vehicle without camouflage is all standard Mondeo in its exterior appearance, the possibility exists that the camo on the second car could hide a Fusion front end. The most likely explanation is that these are mules of some kind, but we're holding out hope that Ford is testing the wagon waters in the United States once again.
