FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

 Q. I have been told that the nickel-plating on a key will wear out the cutting wheel on a key duplicating machine prematurely. Is this true?

A. While Nickel-plating is hard, the wear difference on a cutting wheel is insignificant. Cutter wear is more affected by the speed and the pressure a person applies when duplicating a key. In addition, foreign objects that come in contact with the cutter and/or contact with the vise jaw will have an adverse affect on cutter life.

Q. What is the difference between brass keys and nickel-plated keys?

A. In both cases the base material is brass. Nickel-plating the key extends the shelf life of the key and helps to maintain a "like new" look for a longer period of time.

Q. Why not make all keys out of steel?

A. The internal components of the lock are commonly made of brass or nickel-silver. Making all keys of steel would result in premature wear on the parts.

Kia Borrego

Thu, 08 Nov 2007

Kia has released photos of the Borrego, a full-size SUV for the North American market. The production model, which was originally previewed as the Mesa Concept at the 2005 Detroit Auto show, would have taken exactly three years to be transformed from a show car to a full production model when it makes its official debut at the NAIAS in 2008. Overall proportions and design details have been adjusted and toned-down noticeably from the Mesa concept, with details such as more realistically-sized alloy wheels, the body-To-DLO ratio, a no-frills interior and, perhaps most apparent, the more subtle greenhouse graphics.

New York City Taxi of Tomorrow plans hit a roadblock

Thu, 10 Oct 2013

New York City administration's plan to replace current taxi cabs with the specially developed Nissan Taxi of Tomorrow has been stymied by a recent legal decision, the Wall Street Journal is reporting. The New York State Supreme Court in Manhattan (it's a bit confusing, but this is actually the on the level of the lowest state courts in New York state's court system) has issued a decision which determined the project to be an overreach of executive authority, siding with taxi magnate Evgeny Freidman and the Greater New York Taxi Association. The court stated that city's Taxi and Limousine Commission lacked the authority to compel cab companies to purchase the any particular vehicle -- in this case, the Nissan NV200 Taxi, which was slated to hit streets just a couple weeks from now on Oct.
