Ford Focus Electric (2011): Blue Oval's new BEV
Fri, 07 Jan 2011This is the new Ford Focus Electric, just unveiled at CES 2011, the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. The Ford Focus Electric will become the first electric production car from Ford, and the first of five electric or electrified (hybrid) vehicles that Ford will put on sale in North America and Europe by 2013. Ford hasn't released every single detail yet, as it unveiled the Focus Electric at the CES to highlight the technology which allows drivers to find charging stations, set their car to charge when the electricity is at its cheapest, and remotely access their cars.
GM unveils electric Cadillac Converj concept at the Detroit auto show
Sun, 11 Jan 2009General Motors pulled perhaps a surprise at the Detroit Auto Show Sunday morning, unveiling an eye-catching two-door Cadillac concept powered by a "future evolution" of the Chevrolet Volt's electric powertrain. Called the Converj, the Cadillac will have a range of 40 miles on electricity, with a potential total range of 700 miles after a generator kicks in. GM says the powertrain, formerly known as E-Flex, is now called Voltec, and could be used in a variety of applications.
Seven automakers agree on standardized fast-charge system for EVs
Wed, 12 Oct 2011Seven automakers have agreed to use a common single-port fast-charging system for electric cars in the United States and Europe. The goal is to reduce development costs and make it easier for consumers to adopt electric vehicles. Audi, BMW, Daimler, Ford, General Motors, Porsche and Volkswagen will use identical charge plugs and the same system for communication between the charger and the car in their electric vehicles.
