This upgraded billet aluminum direct clutch piston features  the widest work surface possible, providing the ultimate in clamping load distribution and heat exchange between the piston and clutch pack for big improvements in clutch pack performance and durability. The revised design eliminates the use of the direct clutch cushion plate and allows the  installation of one additional clutch and steel plate, increasing the clutch pack count from five to six plates. L'argus European Design Competition 2004 announced

French magazine L'argus de l'automobile has launched its 3rd European Design Competition , with the theme: "Imagine the convertible utility vehicle" The competition has been run since 2002, asking students at European design schools to design original utility vehicles. The 2003 competition recieved more than 350 submissions from students of Europe's best schools of art and design. This year there are two major new features: extension of the competition to design students in the new European Union countries, and greater freedom for entrants, with a theme allowing more room for creativity.

Mazda Europe has a new design director. Effective 1 September, Kevin Rice will succeed Peter Birtwhistle, who retires from the post of chief designer, bringing to an end a 26-year career with Mazda. Following graduation from Coventry University's transport design course, Rice, 50, began his professional career at Opel in 1986.

The London black cab is being thoroughly rebooted, and it's Nissan who's challenging the dominance of the traditional black taxi. It's brought a new NV200 London Taxi to the capital during the 2012 Olympics in its bid to replace one of the world's most iconic vehicles. Nissan claims the NV200 cab will be cheaper, greener, and more user-friendly than the current fleet of LTI TX4s, and we may yet see a fully electric version join the ranks if trials are successful.
