This is an original GM knee knocker tachometer for the 1966 Chevelle and El Camino. This tach became known as the knee knocker tach because it was mounted to the right of the driver's right knee. If the driver was not careful, they would hit there knee on the tach and cursing would ensue. Finding an original GM knee knocker tach today is a very difficult task. This particular tach is not a run of the mill part. It is very special as described below.

This is not your standard 66 Chevelle knee knocker tach. Most of the knee knocker tachs  you will see read up to 6,000 RPM. The 7,000 RPM models like this one were reserved for the 327/350HP, 396/360HP, and 396/375HP models. A 7,000 RPM knee knocker tach is a rare find in itself, but this tach is leaps and bounds more scarce than simply a 7,000 RPM version. This tach carries the part number 6412774 and has a 6,000 RPM Redline which was exclusive to the infamous L-78 396/375HP engine. The L78 396/375HP was a rare and expensive option, not many buyers opted to spend the extra cash for a factory installed tachometer. This is a very hard to find factory original 396/375HP knee knocker tachometer in working condition!

This tach is in very good original condition as shown. It looks like it was taken out of a car very early in its life. The face is very clean with a chrisp dial and well defined redline as shown. The front bezel is very nice with no dents and is securely fastened to the housing with no missing mounting tabs. The back of the tach is as clean as the front with the part number 6412774 clearly stamped as shown. The chrome housing is a nice original. The wiring is very long as shown. The chrome shines well with good reflection as shown. This is a very nice factory L78 396/375HP tachometer.

It is parts like this that separate the truly great cars from the rest of the pack. A reproduction tachometer can call an entire cars authenticity into question. Stick will real deal original parts and stand proud knowing you own the real deal!

I took a video of the tach being tested. This tach works great. The needle moves flawlessly though the RPM band with no sticking or hesistation. To watch the video, simply click on the play icon in the picture below. The video will play right here on this page.

This is your chance to own the original GM tachometer you have been dreaming about at a great price. Don't Miss Out!

Car thieves shun 4x4s

Tue, 01 Jul 2008

By Nigel Wonnacott Motor Industry 01 July 2008 11:36 Greens hate their CO2 emissions, campaigners may question their safety record and owners might be feeling the pinch at the pump. But 4x4s can claim at least one advantage over smaller cars; they are among the least likely types of car to be stolen. According to the latest Home Office Car Theft Index, just four in every thousand 4x4s and people carriers in Britain were stolen in 2006, compared to seven for Fiesta and Astra-sized cars.

More excitement, less prosaic ordinariness, is the order of the day.
