Here is a pair of new OEM rear quarter side marker lamp assemblies that were removed from a 70 Mustang sport roof a week after it was purchased new in February of 1970. The car was purchased for the purpose of drag racing and therefore was stripped of all it's trim and non essential parts. These have been in dry storage ever since and are in nearly NOS condition just as the day they were removed. Chrome is very clean and bright with no crazing, cracking or blisters. Foam seal to body is still soft and pliable. Threaded mounting studs and speed nuts still have gold tone plating and the original screw on caps. The move highlights the increasing importance of China and its growth potential for luxury makers racing to stake a foothold in the market. The Flying Spurs are customized using the expertise of Linley's design and furniture background, and the interior gets a special veneer and a box in the rear console with a humidor, a cigar cutter and an ashtray.

Thu, 16 Sep 2010Automotivated, a new exhibit at the Petersen Automotive Museum in Los Angeles, traces the evolution of clothes worn in cars--from the bulky circus-tent stuff people had to wear to keep from freezing to death in the jangly, open-topped conveyances of 100 years ago, up to the height of the European Concours in the 1920s and '30s, when what you and your date wore was just as important to winning best of show as the styling of your Delahaye/Delage/Talbot Lago. “In the earliest days of the automobile, you were sitting on the car, you weren't sitting in it,” said Leslie Kendall, curator at the Petersen. So the first section of the exhibit shows people (mannequins dressed as people) in heavy, practical overcoats, scarves and goggles.
