These part numbers are listed as replacing each other.  One says fixed, the other two adjustable but I'm assuming an adjustable can replace a fixed model.

IDLER PULLEY

1974 1975 1976 1977 1978 1979 1980 1981 1982 1983 Ford Mustang Idler pulley. 

 This is a NEW * authorized Ford Remanufactured pulley.  If you have a squeak, rattle or noise coming from under your hood, this could just solve your problems.  For the price, it's worth a try.

Part numbers on box include D8BZ-8678 or D8FZ-8678 or D4FZ-8678 (I've found all three on different boxes with the same part inside), double check your application with Ford parts book or dealer before ordering.

From What I can decipher, it fits 74 to 83 all 4 cyl and most 6 cyl with A/C Mustang

According to the FoMoCo (Ford Motor Company) 1973/1979 parts book 

Pulley Assy (Belt Idler)......F = Mustang

D4FZ-8678-A, D5FZ-8678-B is replaced by D8BZ-8678-A on (5/78) and 12/77).

D4FZ-8678-A 74/77 F, L --A/C, 4 cyl, 140 cid (2300 cc) fixed

1974, 1975, 1976, 1977 Mustang

D8BZ-8678-A 78/83...  F--with A/C, 4 cyl, 140 cid (2300 cc) adjustable

FoMoCo Parts Book Model Codes:  

F = Mustang

* Don't confuse "Authorized Ford Remanufactured (REM)" with common "rebuilt".  For years, before the introduction of Motorcraft (yes there was Autolite, but rarely seen), REM was ALL we EVER FOUND in the hundreds of Ford dealerships we were in.  REM are remanufactured back to or above NEW specifications by a few select large professional companies.  Many times these REM are actually NEW because the remanufactures are under contract to supply Ford, but can't get enough cores, so they buy new and sell them as REM.  Don't settle for less, buy for your Ford!
