New Mercedes B-Class F-CELL in 2014 – more hydrogen cars planned
Fri, 18 May 2012Mercedes B-Class F-CELL in use in Southern California Mercedes-Benz are planning to launch a hydrogen powered fuel cell version of the new B Class in 2014, with a larger fuel cell car also planned. The Mercedes B Class F-Cell – an electric car powered by a hydrogen fuel cell to charge the batteries – is already available for lease in Southern California, albeit at a not exactly everyday affordable $849 a month. Admittedly that does include all the hydrogen you can use, but it’s still probably three times what a regular B-Class would cost to lease.
BMW Alpina D3 BiTurbo – a great diesel
Mon, 16 Mar 2009The BMW Alpina D3 BiTurbo - a brilliant, quick and economical everyday drive Alpina has turned out some stunning versions of the BMW range over the years (and some not so stunning – their 8 Series springs to mind) and they fill a gap that is either not profitable in small volume for BMW or, in some cases, a hole that BMW hasn’t plugged. And this one is a good hole to fill with the BMW Alpina D3 Bi-Turbo, a 3 Series diesel with the heart of a hot hatch. Alpina has taken the engine out of the 1 Series 123d and given it a boost to 240bhp, in the process dropping the 0-60 time to a very creditable 6.9 seconds But it’s not the sprint that count, but the way this peppy diesel unit delivers it.
One Lap of the Web: Rags to riches, Beetles to Porsches
Thu, 27 Feb 2014-- Joseph MacDonald parked his 1965 Beetle in front of a restaurant 41 years ago, and that was the last time he saw it. He might yet see it again today, as his stolen car -- now painted white, and with even more rust -- will reunite with him, through the providence of border patrol officers actually performing some due diligence. Jason Torchinsky -- who knows a thing or two about stolen Beetles -- notes that he was lucky enough not to have waited 40 years for his car to come back.
