Imagining the Future: The Southern California Automotive Design Studio
Tue, 02 Dec 2008Southern California is home to more automotive design studios than anywhere else in the world, and to commemorate that relationship and celebrate Art Center College of Design's 60th Anniversary, the Petersen Automotive Museum is putting on a new permanent exhibition among its rolling time capsules and automotive memorabilia from Hollywood. The new design exhibition showcases the history of the local design community and its contribution to the world. Located in the ‘Streetscape' section of the Petersen Automotive Museum, the Car Design Studio is at the modern end of a realistic walk-through diorama of California's history as it relates to the automobile.
BMW bobsled carries Team USA to Winter Olympics victory
Wed, 19 Feb 2014At the Sochi Winter Olympics, Team USA took home its first medal in two-man bobsledding since 1952. Steven Holcomb, a former Alpine skier and National Guard soldier, and partner Steven Langton raced to a third-place finish in the event -- despite Holcomb's sprained left calf that doctors had to treat long into the night before the race. The margin of victory for the bronze medal was just 0.03 second.
Alpina unveils B4 Bi-Turbo at Tokyo Motor Show
Thu, 21 Nov 2013It didn't take long for German tuning house Alpina to debut its version of the new BMW 4-series, and they've chosen the Tokyo Motor Show to unveil the new model. Under the hood of the Alpina B4 Bi-Turbo is a 3.0-liter straight-six engine with two turbochargers, making 410 hp and 442 lb-ft of torque. Alpina has tweaked the suspension a bit as well, installing their adaptive-sport suspension and an eight-speed automatic transmission.
