General Motors says Magna's Opel bid has obstacles, RHJ's is easier to accept

General Motors Co. says a bid for Opel from Magna International faces hurdles while a rival offer from Belgian investor RHJ International would be easier to accept. Writing on GM Europe's Web site, John Smith, GM's chief negotiator for the Opel sale, says Magna's bid "contained elements around intellectual property and our Russian operations that simply could not be implemented." New car sales surge by 7.6%

THE SURGE in new car sales has continued into the new year. There were 154,562 new vehicles registered last month, a 7.6% rise on January last year, the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) said. The society said sales of alternatively fuelled vehicle increased by 25%.

V6-only Ford F-150 Limited gets more luxury and utility

The big news for the Limited trim option of the 2013 Ford F-150 is that it will be powered exclusively by the company's EcoBoost V6, making 365 hp while returning a claimed 22 mpg on the highway in two-wheel drive trim. The new F-150 Limited gets 22-inch polished aluminum wheels, body-color front and rear bumpers and standard HID headlights. The Limited comes only in SuperCrew configuration, and only in three colors—red, black and white.
