When we reported last month on the MINI Rolls Royce Edition we reckoned that BMW had managed to produce a dozen new models of the MINI in 2009, although the number of new models and limited editions is so large we thought we might have missed one or two. Better Place EV Battery Swap business goes bust

It seemed like a good idea: take the cost of batteries out of the cost of buying an electric car and instead charge EV owners to use ‘Battery Swap’ stations where depleted batteries could be swapped for fully charged ones in the time it takes to fill an ICE car with petrol. But it’s all gone a bit Pete Tong. Better Place – which partnered with Renault in 2009 to make the battery swap technology viable – has failed to find anyone to add to the $750 million already involved in the project and has filed for bankruptcy.

Now the new Megane has gone on sale in the UK – as a Hatchback, Coupe and Sport Tourer – with prices starting at £16,745 for the Expression+ 1.6 VVT 110 Hatch, rising to £26,925 for the Renaultsport 265 Coupe. The changes wrought by Renault for the Megane are relatively minor, with a new family nose (a lot like the new Clio), new lights, tweaked bonnet, new Renault badge and some very minor interior changes including the addition of Renault’s R-Link Media system as an option.
