Andersen 12ST stainless winches, pair. On boat for one season. Changing to different model Andersen winch. Andersens are the best. Power ribs on winches  save your lines. Self tailing is a "must" for short-handed crews, or crew with little or no winch experience. Self  tailing winches save fingers. The #12 is recommended for all uses on boats 28' and below, and uses other than genoa sheets on boats 29'-33'. Other uses on bigger boats check the Andersen website.
These winches  have been disassembled, cleaned, inspected, lubed, reassembled and polished. All pawls and springs in very good condition. One winch looked to have some wear on the  main internal shaft, but works fine. This is internal and not visible when assembled. All bearings, races,  and gear teeth  look very good.   Outside of winches excellent with no scratches.  This model has the black plastic top, which reduces weight. There is another version called "Full Stainless" that  has a stainless top to the drum. These are a lot more expensive and heavier. The boxes say "full stainless". Those are not the boxes these came in but I am including them.
Note on the lube: I reassembled the winches using Phil's Tenacious Waterproof Grease. Go to the Phil Wood website for more info. This is waterproof grease designed for high end bicycle hubs. These take a much higher beating than  sailboat winches. If you want the winches re-lubed with Andersen grease, I can do that, but Phil's is better.

Maybach 57S Coupe arrives

Mon, 04 Oct 2010

The Maybach 57S Coupe by Xenatec Regular readers will know that we gave due warning back in March that Maybach was going to be allowed to wither on the vine rather than get new models, apart from a run-out Maybach Coupe based on the Maybach 57S and ‘produced’ by German firm Xenatec. Mercedes refuted our story about the Maybach badge being allowed to die again soon after the story ran (although there were rumblings at Paris last week that Mercedes has lost patience with Maybach. We’ll see), but what we did get was an official announcement that there will indeed be 100 Maybach 57S Coupes built by Xantech and that they will costs a rather large €675,000.

Catrinel Menghia topless for the Fiat 500C Abarth (Video)

Tue, 04 Dec 2012

Fiat has turned to Catrinel Menghia once again to get red-blooded males to give the convertible Abarth 500 – the Fiat 500C Abarth – a bit of attention. Fiat are Italian, and Italians love women. And Fiat, in particular, loves Catrinel Menghia (even if she is Romanian), so they’ve turned to the delightful assets of Ms Menghia once again to promote their cars.

McLaren F1 GTR up for auction at the Quail

Wed, 11 Apr 2012

Six-hundred horsepower seems rather paltry figure these days. Sure, it was big stuff when Ferrari introduced the 599 more than a half-decade ago. But these days, Ford will sell you a lowly Mustang with 650 ponies and a factory warranty.
