Item Description

Bell Custom 500 Good Times Helmet

Throwbacks and retro lids are nice, but nothing beats an original. Back in 1954 Bell founder Roy Richter formed his first helmet out of fiberglass and named it the “500.” That moment was ground zero for the modern motorsport helmet and it gave rise to an entire industry. Bell’s Custom 500 pays homage to Richter’s original design and adds modern protective technology to bring the design up-to-date while still keeping the original’s aesthetic. By combining a custom fiberglass layup with a specially designed EPS foam layer, Bell engineers were able to craft a helmet that is at once light weight, narrow in profile, and DOT-compliant. Adding custom paint-inspired graphics, chrome trim work (on some graphics) and a quilted liner, the Custom 500 looks as good as it performs.

Features:
  • Custom fiberglass shell
  • Custom-quilted liner
  • Chrome trim (graphic dependent)
  • Integrated snaps for aftermarket shields and visors
  • Padded chin strap with D-ring closure and strap keeper
  • Five-year warranty
  • CERTIFICATION: DOT

Great mileage? King Midget did that 50 years ago

Tue, 13 Jul 2010

WITH VIDEO -- As the world grapples with ever-decreasing stocks of inexpensive oil and ever-increasing traffic, the diminutive King Midget two-seater--made in the thousands from 1946 to 1970--starts to look pretty good. Again. "These cars will be the future kings of the road," said Petersen Automotive Museum director, and huge King Midget enthusiast, Dick Messer.

Landwind Fashion

Chinese manufacturer Landwind are entering the heated midi-MPV market with the Fashion, which is available with either five or seven seats. This pitches it directly against the Renault Megane Scenic and the Opel Zafira, which in particular is enjoying buoyant sales. The Fashion will hope its low starting price of about US$16,000 will help it steal some of those customers, though taller ones may be put of by a tail-gate that only opens to face height.
