2011 BMW 1 Series Facelift

The BMW 1 Series Coupe & Convertible get a 2011 Facelift

To be entirely accurate, the 2011 BMW 1 Series Facelift isn’t across the board – at least not yet. What we are getting – at the Detroit Motor Show next month – is a modest refresh to the cosmetics on the BMW 1 Series Coupe and BMW 1 Series Convertible plus a bit of an oily tweak.

On the cosmetic front the 2011 1 Series gets some new light front and back – headlight tweaks, L-shaped tail lights and LEDs front and back – and a new splitter that BMW says creates an air curtain to improve CO2 and reduce drag. But by how much BMW hasn’t said.

BMW are offering a couple of new colours for the 1 Series – Vermillon Red and Marrakesh Brown – and there’s a couple of 17″ alloy options plus and 18″ V-Spoke option. Inside the range of seat upholstery and decorative trim features has been extensively revised and new options such as sports leather steering wheel with shift paddles and an M leather steering wheel have been added.

On the oily front the only change seems to be to the 135i. BMW will be dropping the 3.0 litre twin turbo N54 engine and replace it with the single turbo, twin-scroll 3.0 litre N55 lump. On paper the output of the engines is the same, but BMW say the N55 offers better throttle response and – more importantly – better economy.

No word on any price changes, but we’re sure to know ahead of Detroit next month.
