2011 Mercedes C63 AMG leaks

The 2011 Mercedes C63 AMG

We had the official release of images and detail on the 2011 Mercedes C Class facelift just before Christmas, following the inevitable leak of a photo or two at the start of November. What we didn’t get was any information on the latest version of the C63 AMG. But now we do.

The 2011 Mercedes C63 AMG will not be officially launched until next summer, but the photo above shows the changes Mercedes has wrought to its range-topping C Class. There are new bumpers and new LEDs up front, together with a re-shaped bonnet.

The interior also gets a re-work, with a more E-Class feel and higher quality materials. But what lurks under the bonnet is the big question.

It would be reasonable to expect Mercedes to endow the 2011 C63 AMG with its default replacement for the soon-to-be-retired 6.2 litre AMG lump – the new Mercedes 5.5 litre twin-turbo. But it seems Mercedes has decided to keep that engine in reserve for the C63 AMG Coupe – the successor to the CLK.

So the latest C63 has to make do with the 6.2 litre AMG lump which offers 457 horses and 442lb/ft of torque in the current C63. It’s reasonable to assume that Mercedes will tweak that to give more horses and better economy, but so far we have no details.

The C63 AMG is already a brilliant car. The 2011 C63 should be every bit as brilliant but with an added dose of quality, performance and economy.

Which will make it very hard to resist.
