The 2011 Mercedes CLS bows in at Paris

It’s compulsory for car hacks to start every piece about the Mercedes CLS with the phrase ‘The car that started the 4-door coupe craze’. So, not wanting to disappoint, here we have the 2011 Mercedes CLS at the Paris Motor Shoiw, the replacement for the Mercedes CLS that started the 4 door coupe craze. There. Job done.

After a 2011 CLS photo or three leaked on to the interwebs back in August, Mercedes decided to be pragmatic and churned out official photos of the 2011 CLS and a bit of bumph. Enough anyway to usurp the leaked pics.

So we know what the CLS looks like. Or we though we did. But in the flesh it looks as individual as the original CLS did. We had commented when we ran a story about the CLS getting papped in July that we thought it seemed a bit watered-down in the 2011 iteration. But we were wrong.

The 2011 CLS (or 2012 Mercedes CLS if you’re on the wrong side of the Pond) looks every bit as good as the original. In fact it’s even bolder than the original with a statement upright grill which flows beautifully in to the aggresive body. The arse, which looked tame in pictures, works a treat in the flesh.

Our favourite Mercedes is still a CLS. The 2011 Mercedes CLS. At least until we get the 2011 AMG CLS.
