2012 Mini coupe revealed in full pictures and with pricing details

Mon, 20 Jun 2011

Finally--after a slew of teasers, spy shots and other temptations--pictures of the much-anticipated Mini Cooper coupe in full production trim were released on Monday.

The coupe is the first two-seat Mini since the brand relaunched in the United States. It will be offered with three four-cylinder engine choices, topped by a 208-hp John Cooper Works model. Six-speed manual and automatic gearboxes are available, depending on the version.

Additionally, Mini released pricing information: The base coupe starts at $22,000, the S variant is $25,300 and the JCW is $31,900. All prices include $700 shipping charges, and the JCW version gets an aero kit, which is standard for the new model year on that trim.

The coupe is claimed to have the best acceleration ever for a Mini--to the tune of a 6.1-second 0-to-60-mph time--and it can reach a top speed of 149 mph.

The so-called "helmet roof" is shown more clearly and camo-free for the first time in these shots. It comes standard in a contrasting color from the body. Aerodynamics are fortified with spoilers on the roof and in the rear; the latter deploys automatically at 50 mph.

Despite its two-seat setup, there is stowage space behind the front seats and a wide-opening tailgate, Mini says.

The coupe goes on sale in October and is Mini's attempt to lure more male buyers to the brand.
