2012 Porsche 911 undisguised - bar the lights

It’s quite hard to find anything new to report about the 2012 Porsche 911 – at least on how it looks – when Porsche themselves release ‘spy’ video of the new 911. But this 911 video shows more.

A sharp-eyed – and well-prepared – Porsche fan spotted the brown (Topaz Brown Metallic by the look – trendy colour) 911 at a petrol station in Suttgart and managed to grab some half-decent footage.

The 911 in the video is almost undisguised, although the lights do still look as though they have been disguised to look bigger. Just like the spy shots of the 911 we’ve had, the lights do look as though they’re going to be much smaller than they seem at first impression.

With some perspective in the video with other cars it is also easier to see that the 2012 911 has grown in both its length and girth. Not so easy to discern, although we know it to be true, is that this 2011 911 will be sporting either a fettled 3.8 litre or the new – more efficient – 3.4 litre Boxer engine which promises the same power as the old 3.6 litre, but better economy and emissions.

But we don’t have to wait long to get the gen on the rest of the details of the new Porsche 911, including expected goodies like active aerodynamics, with Frankfurt happening at the end of next month.

Porsche may have the most bone-idle designers on the planet (according to JC), but the 2012 Porsche 911 (991/998) looks to be quite a big leap forward.
