The new BMW M6 Coupe revealed ahead of a Geneva 2012 debut

The 2013 BMW M6 has been revealed ahead of a Geneva 2012 debut. The M6 Convertible will debut in April in New York.

The 2013 BMW M6 Coupe and the new BMW M6 Convertible have been revealed this morning ahead of motor show debuts, with the M6 Coupe landing at the Geneva Motor Show next month, and the M6 Convertible keeping some of its powder dry until the New York Auto Show in April.

As you would expect, the new M6 is the new 6-Series with the underpinnings of the M5. That means 552bhp and 502lb/ft from its 4.4 litre turbo V8, a 0-60mph of 4.2 seconds (4.3 fro the convertible) and 189mph (as long as you stump up for the M Driver’s Pack), all driven through a seven-speed, dual-clutch ‘box (we don’t think there will be a manual option) and the M5′s active differential.

That’s an increase in power and torque from the last generation V10 M6 of 52bhp and 122lb/ft, despite which the new M6 Coupe averages 28.5mpg and the M6 Convertible 27.4mpg. Emissions are credible too, with the M6 Coupe emitting 232g/km and the Convertible 239g/km.

Cosmetic changes to turn the 6-Series in to the M6 include a deeper front spoiler, widened front wings, new grill (with M6 badge), big diffuser, quad exhaust pipes and 19″ alloys. BMW has tried to mitigate the weight of the new M6 with stuff like a carbon fibre roof panel, plastic front wings and aluminium bonnet, which it needed to considering the increase in size over the last M6 and the extra equipment.

That extra equipment includes the usual electronic stuff like Cornering Brake Control, Dynamic Brake Control, Dry Brake Functions and DSC, but you can also add stuff like 20″ ceramic brakes for the first time.

The DSC gets three mode: DSC On, which keeps everything together, M Dynamic Mode which lets you slip and slide but still gathers you up if it all goes Pete Tong, and DSC Off when you’re completely on your own.

Both the BMW M6 Coupe and M6 Convertible are expected to arrive in BMW UK Showrooms in September 2012, with the new M6 Coupe costing £94k and the M6 Convertible £99k.
