2013 Chevy, GMC trucks recalled for roll-away risk

Fri, 04 Jan 2013

General Motors is recalling 69,000 2013 full-size trucks and vans that could shift out of “park” and roll away.

The recall impacts the Cadillac Escalade; the Chevrolet Avalanche, Express, Silverado HD and LD, and Suburban and Tahoe; and the GMC Savana, Sierra HD and LD, and Yukon and Yukon XL.

The trucks may have been built with a fractured park-lock cable, or a deformed steering-column lock-actuator gear in the lock-module assembly. The defect may cause the vehicles to shift out of park without applying the brake pedal and without a key in the ignition.

GM is not aware of any crashes or injuries related to the defect, and said most of the affected vehicles are believed to still be on dealer lots.

Only about 55,000 are in the United States, GM said.

GM will notify owners of impacted vehicles and replace the steering column free of charge. For more information, Chevrolet owners may call 1-800-630-2438, Cadillac owners can call 1-866-982-2339 and GMC owners can call 1-866-996-9463.
