2013 Dodge Dart Teased

Chrysler has resurrected a 1960s badge and taken the underpinnings of the Alfa Romeo Giulietta to create the 2013 Dodge Dart.

The integration of Chrysler and Alfa Romeo is moving on, with the first Chrysler to be built on an Alfa platform arriving at Detroit Auto Show in January – the 2013 Dodge Dart.

Chrysler has taken the Alfa Giulietta platform and made it bigger, creating a new platform for North America that is longer and wider than its Italian progenitor, and called it ‘Compact US Wide’ (CUSW).

The new CUSW platform is then clothed in Dodge style (although we only have teaser photos to judge for now) to create the new Dodge Dart, a new small and fuel efficient entry to the marque with a name Chrysler has resurrected from the compact Dodge Dart of the 1960s.

Engines on offer in the Dart will be a choice from three four-pot lumps: a 1.4 litre MultiAir turbo from Fiat, a 2.0 litre Tigershark and a 2.4 litre Tigershark which gets Fiat’s MultiAir technology resulting in improvements in emissions, economy and torque. According to Dodge, the new ‘..Dart blends Alfa DNA with Dodge Performance’.

The new Dart, which is going to be going up against cars like the new Focus, is going to be built in Chrysler’s Belvedere Plant in Illinois
