Thu, 21 Feb 2013

The 2013 Honda Accord Coupe earned top safety awards from two major U.S. organizations, continuing the brand's clean slate for the 2013 model year.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration gave the 2013 Accord Coupe a five-star overall vehicle score. To earn the overall five-star score from NHTSA, the coupe earned five-stars in rollover, frontal, side-barrier and side-pole crash test categories. The Accord sedan also earned an overall five-star safety rating (Read our review of the 2013 Honda Accord sedan here).

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) named the coupe a “top safety pick +” with "good" ratings in all test modes. To earn the "+," the coupe also received a "good" rating on the new small-overlap frontal crash, which tests the vehicle in a front-corner crash.

The Accord lineup was redesigned for 2013 with a reinforced frontal structure Honda claims enhances crash-energy management. It also has a new side-airbag construction designed to lower the risk of injury to passengers sitting next to the side airbag.

So far, all tested Honda models have earned a top safety pick or top safety pick + rating from the IIHS. The Civic coupe, FCX Clarity and Fit EV have not been tested.
