2013 McLaren MP4-12C: Upgrades now official

Sat, 09 Jun 2012

The upgrades for the 2013 models of the McLaren MP4-12C have now been officially revealed and also apply to older McLarens.

Earlier this week Cars UK was one of the first to report that McLaren are upgrading the MP4-12C for 2013 with a number of upgrades, including a power boost, which will also be applied to existing cars. McLaren has now caught up with our story and confirmed this.

The major headline change is the additional 25 PS McLaren has extracted from the MP4-12C’s 3.8 litre V8 to up available power to 625 PS (616bhp). This has a marginal impact on performance but is also said to give “…crisper throttle response and improved clutch control for gear changes that are both faster and smoother”,  without any penalty in CO2 emissions or fuel economy.

There are a raft of minor changes such as a new,  higher quality leather interior option, new wheel designs and finishes, One-Touch seat return, revised calibration for the 7-Speed SSG ‘box, programmable intake sound generator, headlights linked to the rain sensor in auto mode and subtle revisions to the McLaren Speed Marque badge.

You can read all the bumph McLaren sent us on the 2013 MP4-12C upgrades in the press release and there are some new photos of the MP4-12C in the photos below.

Nice upgrades and great to see McLaren giving existing 12C owners most of what’s on offer as a free of charge upgrade too.
