2014 Bentley Mulsanne gets more comfortable and more connected

Thu, 24 Jan 2013

The 2014 Bentley Mulsanne will make its debut at the Geneva auto show in March. The flagship arrives with an upgraded interior and comfort package, new paint colors and more entertainment features than previous models. The cabin of the Mulsanne will also be a Wi-Fi hotspot.

The new Comfort Specification comes with headrests that extend higher and lower than standard units, with adjustable bolsters to maximize comfort for drivers of any stature. New footrests are trimmed in the same carpet as the cabin and match each individual vehicle. They stow away under the front seats when not in use. The seat cushions are filled with duck down feathers and trimmed in the same hide as the seats.

Privacy curtains are also offered from the factory. They’re controlled from the driver’s seat or rear compartment via the window switches. The curtains are integrated into the back doors and rear window, giving 100 percent privacy to the rear passengers.

The Entertainment Specification offers all the standard options you would expect on a Bentley -- navigation, MP3 player, web connectivity -- but adds even more luxury. Two rear tables deploy iPads and wireless keyboards. They feature an adjustable angle and stow away in the front seats. The iPads charge when the car is running, and can be removed or hidden. The trunk lid sports the antenna for a wireless router, which can support up to eight wireless devices.

No Bentley would be complete without matching luggage, and the Mulsanne doesn’t disappoint. Italian luggage specialist Schedoni provides a six-piece set: two large cases, two small cases and two foldable garment bags. The shape of the monogrammed bags allows them to fit neatly in the trunk without scratching the handles.

The Mulsanne continues in 2014 with the 6.75-liter, twin-turbocharged V8 making 505 hp and 752 lb-ft of torque. A ZF eight-speed transmission sends power to the rear wheels. The luxury tank weighs in at a hefty 7,055 pounds, which contributes to an EPA rating of 11 mpg in the city and 18 on the highway. Although we’re pretty sure if you’re in the market for a Bentley Mulsanne, filling it up won’t be a problem.

Pricing will be announced closer to the Geneva motor show, but we can expect it will be a slight bump from the 2013 Mulsanne’s price of $296,000.
