2014 GMC Sierra Denali gets more bling, luxury, tech

Wed, 29 May 2013

The 2014 Chevy Silverado and GMC Sierra pickup trucks -- revealed at the Detroit auto show -- will be two of the GM's biggest sellers this spring. Now we know a little more about the luxury GMC Sierra Denali trim, which about 20 percent of buyers opt for.

The new Sierra Denali will come with a standard 355-hp 5.3-liter V8 or available 420-hp, 6.2-liter V8. A six-speed automatic transmission is standard across the range.

The Denali will get a signature chrome grille, 20-inch wheels, upgraded interior trim, a polished stainless-steel exhaust system and body-color bumpers. LED daytime running lights are also standard.

Inside, buyers will get Denali script on the door sills and the front seats. A Bose audio system, heated and cooled leather seats, a heated steering wheel, front and rear park assist and a power rear sliding window are included as well.

As for technology, the Sierra Denali pickup gets an eight-inch driver's display that can show vehicle settings, audio and navigation information. Another eight-inch touchscreen will sit in the center of the dash. It will display the navigation map, radio station, Intellilink system and Bluetooth info. Five USB ports are standard.

Two option packages are offered on the 2014 Sierra Denali: The Z71 Off-Road Package will come with monotube Rancho shocks, Hill Descent Control and a transfer case shield. The Driver Alert package adds Lane Departure Warning and Forward Collision Alert. A sunroof and a rear-seat-entertainment system are optional.

Pricing hasn't been revealed for the new Denali, which goes on sale this fall, but the current Sierra Denali starts at $47,425; expect the 2014 Denali to land in the same ball park. For comparison, the standard regular-cab 2014 GMC Sierra pickup starts at $25,085 including destination; the double cab starts at $29,110, while a crew cab will set buyers back at least $33,210.
