The Mercedes CLA Shooting Brake will arrive in 2015

Mercedes are determined that their new A-Class family of cars will offer something for everyone, and the latest demonstration of that is the official confirmation of the new Mercedes CLA Shooting Brake for 2015. Taking its design cues from the CLS Shooting Brake, the new CLA Shooting Brake will offer a swoopy coupe estate with the emphasis on style rather than load-lugging.

Underpinning the new CLA Shooting Brake will be the same platform that underpins the other A-Class models – A-Class, CLA Coupe, GLA SUV and B-Class – and offer the same range of engine and transmission options.

That means a range of turbo diesel and petrol engines with either a six-speed manual gearbox and the option of front-wheel-drive as well as four-wheel drive.

What it also means is there will be a CLA 45 AMG Shooting Brake offering four-wheel-drive and the same 355bhp 2.0 litre turbo as the A 45 AMG, CLA 45 AMG and GLA 45 AMG.

That should offer performance almost exactly the same as the A 45 and CLA 45, a more than adequate 0-62mph in 4.6 seconds and the possibility of real world economy of around 30 mpg (unless you’re really intent on playing).

Mercedes hasn’t revealed when the CLA Shooting Brake will arrive, but the Geneva Motor Show in March 2015 seems likely (although it could be earlier) and prices are likely to be a bit more than the CLA Coupe – expect the CLA 45 AMG Shooting Brake to start at close to £45,000.
