The new 2015 Porsche 911 Carrera 4 GTS (pictured) now on sale

We had assumed that the lack of an appearance at the Paris Motor Show for the new Porsche 911 Carrera GTS meant Porsche had decided to leave the official reveal until later in the year. But here it is, and it’s going straight on sale. Having waited almost until the end of the 997’s life before launching a 911 GTS, this latest GTS is arriving much earlier in the 991’s lifecycle than you’d expect. Perhaps Porsche is trying to make life a bit harder for the new Mercedes AMG GT?

What’s on offer is much as you’d expect, with a regular GTS available in Coupe or Cabriolet guises and a Carrera 4 GTS with 4WD and also available with or without its top intact.

Porsche has coaxed an extra 30bhp from the 911’s 3.8 litre flat-six, for a 424bhp output, and fitted the Sport Chrono Package as standard, which provides PASM, dynamic engine mounts and a ride height lowered by 10mm, with a PDK gearbox as an option or 7-speed manual box as standard.

The extra power hasn’t changed the GTS’s economy figures compared to the Carrera S (just under 30mpg for the manual), but it can now get to 62mph in 4.0 seconds and top 186mph (the cabriolet is 0.2s slower to 62mph).

Cosmetic tweaks to mark the GTS out from lesser 911s are fairly subtle and include a wider Carrera 4 body for all versions, GTS badges, deeper front spoiler, black tail pipes, 20″ matt black alloys, with the interior getting extra Alcantara and leather seats.

The new Porsche 911 Carrera GTS is now on sale, with the Carrera GTS Coupe costing from £91,098 (Cabriolet from £99,602) and the Carrera 4 GTS from £95,862 (Cabriolet from £104,385) with first cars expected in Porsche’s UK showrooms next month.
