AC Schnitzer upgrades third-gen BMW X5

Mon, 03 Mar 2014

The Geneva motor show probably brings together more companies related to carmakers than any other show on the calendar (except maybe SEMA). This year, we'll see Brabus, ABT, Mansory and -- of course -- AC Schnitzer. Schnitzer is based in Aschen, Germany and specializes in BMWs and Minis. For this year's show, the company is showing off its take on the BMW X5 SUV.

Schnitzer is offering six -- count 'em, six -- performance upgrades for BMW's big truck. Four of them are for diesel versions that we don't get here, but the other two are for the X5 35i and X5 50i.

The X5 35i grows from 306 hp to a robust 360 hp. The X5 50i goes from 450 hp to an M-like 525. The company also installs its own custom exhaust, and a lowering kit that puts the X5 about 1.5 inches closer to the ground in front, and 1 inch in the back.

A handful of wheels are offered in several sizes. Forged or alloy units are both available, in one or two-color, in black, silver or anthracite. Aerodynamic upgrades include front and rear skirts, an integrated diffuser and a rear skirt protection foil.

Inside, AC Schnitzer adds aluminum pedal covers and foot rests, key holder and velour floor mats.

We contacted Schnitzer about the price and availability in the U.S. We'll report back when we hear from them.
