The Fiat 500 pays tribute to Maserati

Fiat is launching a new special edition 500 at the Geneva Motor Show – the Abarth 695 Tributo Maserati – a convertible Abarth 500.

Almost three years ago Fiat produced a limited edition Abarth 500 that paid tribute to Ferrari – the Abarth 695 Tributo Ferrari – which cam with decent oomph, a bright red Ferrari paint job and an eye-watering price tag of £30k.

Now Fiat feel it’s time to pay tribute to another marque in its portfolio – and relieve punters of a further slice of hard-earned – with the Abarth 695 Tributo Maserati – this time a soft-top – arriving at the Geneva Motor Show next month.

Fiat are building just 499 Tributo Maserati 500s, and they get the 1.4 litre T-Jet petrol with 180 horses that has the automated manual Abarth Competizione ‘box with paddle shifters. The brakes have also been beefed up to cope with the power and the suspension gets uprated shocks.

Maserati may not have a colour palette that’s quite as easily identifiable as Ferrari, nonetheless Fiat has picked a bespoke Maserati colour - Pontevecchio Bordeaux  - for the Tributo Maserati, added alloys to a Maserati design and even the tailpipes are hexagonal – just like a Maserati.

Inside the Tributo Maserati gets sports seats trimmed in beige Poltrona Frau leather, two-tone leather wheel, Jaeger instruments, aluminium pedals, carbon-fibre kick plates with ‘Abarth 695 Tributo Maserati’ graphics and the dash and gear surround get a matt finish carbon lining.

The Abarth 695 Tributo Ferrari made it to the UK, but we don’t yet know if Fiat plan to bring the Abarth 695 Tributo Maserati her, not how much iot will cost.

But it will probably be the wrong side of £30k.
