Abu Dhabi F1 Grand Prix 2010

It was supposed to end up being Alonso’s day. But it wasn’t. It was Vettel’s. Sebastian Vettel lead the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix from start to finish, ended up at the front of the drivers leaderboard for the first time ever and ended up the 2010 F1 World Champion – the youngest ever.

Throughout a mixed race – which included a safety car after Schumacher spun and was ‘run over’ by Liuzzi on the opening lap – Vettel had a dream race where his two main competitors – Alonso and Webber – had a nightmare race.

Both Alonso and Webber suffered from poor tyres and being stuck behind Petrov for at least half the race. Alonso seemed to expect Petrov to move over for him, but the Spaniard couldn’t find a way past and he ended up in seventh place with Webber a very sad eighth.

It was a case of extra speed coming a bit too late for 2010 for the Mclarens, but their speed in qualifying saw them come in second and third to clinch the second place in the constructors championship, and fourth and fifth respectively in the driver’s standings behind Vettel, Alonso and Webber.

Congratulations to Sebastian Vettel and commiserations to Mark Webber. It should have been hist title this year.
