Alfa Romeo MiTo Quadrifoglio and 2500 Balloons

Alfa in the UK rather like a bit of social media promotion. So they’ve set up a competition to promote the quite warm Alfa Romeo MiTo Quadrifoglio.

But instead of just doing the usual ‘Like us on Facebook to win’, they’ve put a bit of thought in to the whole thing.

Alfa has roped in professional stunt driver Terry Grant to get behind the wheel of a  MiTo Quadrifoglio to see how many balloons he can burst in one go. But rather than just sticking a pile of balloons on a runway, Alfa went to the trouble of creating the Alfa Romeo logo out of inflated rubber (or whatever they make balloons from these days).

Terry blatted the MiTo at the Alfa balloon logo and managed to take out all but four of the balloons, so painstakingly placed by Alfa’s crack balloon specialist placers.

And now Alfa fans get the chance to win a day out at the Goodwood Motor Circuit to play with Alfas. Which is a far from shoddy prize. All you have to do is hop over to Alfa’s Facebook page and decide which of the grid references housed the balloons that remained after the stunt.

To give you a bit of a clue, Alfa arranged to have the balloon carnage captured on video. And not just any old video. They opted to use  300 frames per second and IMAX quality resolution. They’ve even put up a trailer for the video, which you can see below.

It also appears that this little stunt by Alfa has set a new world record for bursting balloons with a car (is there a world record for everything these days?) and the right man at Guinness has all the details.

And fortunately all this is to give a bit of profile to a very good car – the latest Alfa Romeo MiTo Quadrifoglio Verde with its new wheels, new toys and bits of carbon fibre.
