Mon, 03 Mar 2014

Autoweek contributor, appraiser, valuation expert and rural quiz-bowl champ Dave Kinney has a thing for Studebaker Avantis. He claims to have owned around 100 of them, though we've heard that the real number is higher than that.

One of those Avantis was the second one that Studebaker ever built. a 4-speed, supercharged model,

Kinney discovered the car in the 1980s, bought it and then stored it with the intention of restoring it. In 1995, it disappeared without a trace. Kinney spent more than 15-years hoping that it would resurface and shockingly, it did. It's now been restored and is scheduled to appear at the Amelia Island Concours which runs from March 7-9. You can check out Kinney's excellent story on the Avanti here on the NYT site if you want all the gory/hilarious details.
