Arizona auctions kick up the horsepower on day 3

As the weekend approaches for the Arizona auctions, the large-dollar rides begin to drive in.

Hagerty has compiled the numbers of the top-selling rides and prices thus far.

RM Auctions had a $7.6 million day on Thursday with 49 of 52 lots selling. Average sale price was $154,999.

The top spot, a Series II 1959 BMW 507 roadster, sold for $990,000. It represents one of just 251 examples made, and it was professionally restored by RM Auto Restorations.

A 1930 Duesenberg Model J LWB Dual Cowl Phaeton at $880,000 and a 1955 Mercedes-Benz 300SL Gullwing coupe at $632,500 round out the top three sales for the RM Auction event.

Bonhams sold $5.5 million worth of iron with a 57 percent sell-through rate (38 of 67 lots sold), with an average sale price of $145,628.

The highest price came from a 1937 Mercedes-Benz 540K Cabriolet C sold for $667,000. A 1930 Rolls-Royce Phantom I Transformal Phaeton came in second for $524,000, followed by a 1947 Delahaye 135M three-position DHC for $474,500.

Barrett-Jackson rang up $10.3 million from 259 lots.

Top honors for Thursday came from a 2010 Dodge Charger NASCAR Nationwide Series race car that sold for $250,000.

A 1968 Ford Mustang custom fastback sold for $242,000, and a 2004 Bentley Continental GT sold for $128,700.

Finally, Russo and Steele notched a 63 percent sell rate (126 of 200 lots sold) and totaled $2.8 million with an average sale price of $22,160.

A 2006 Pontiac Solstice custom sold for $83,600, while a 1960 Ford Sunliner sold for $63,800 and a 1928 Ford two-door sedan sold for $60,500 as the top three sellers.

The numbers so far from all of the auction companies put a cumulative sales total at $37.8 million, with an 89 percent sell-through rate (878 of 984 lots sold) and an average sale price of $48,770.
