Aspid GT-21 Invictus revealed – sort of

Aspid – the Spanish supercar maker which was IFR Aspid – has revealed the first images, and video, of the new Aspid GT-21 Invictus.

IFR Aspid made the Caterham-esque – and rather bonkers – Aspid SuperSport, but after a change of name to just ‘Aspid’ they teased a new car back in May, which looked to be more mainstream.

That tease arrives as the Aspid GT-21 Invictus, which takes the starting point of the very ‘open’ SuperSport and clothes it in a new body that turns it in to more of a GT car – even if it still gets open front wheels.

Powered by a BMW 4.4 litre V8, Aspid say the GT-21 Invictus will hit 62mph in less than 3.0 seconds and power on to a top speed of 186mph, thanks not just to a useful 450bhp from the BMW V8 but a low weight of under 1000kg thanks to extensive use of aerospace technology.

Aspid has high hopes and big plans for the 2+2 GT-21 Invictus saying its production – a maximum of 250 cars a year – will deliver 200 high-tech jobs and a network of 20 dealer outlets.

There’s much of the ‘wish-list’ about the GT-21 Invictus, but the renderings and the CGI video show much promise, and even though Aspid hasn’t given us a clue how much they want for the GT-21 Invictus it seems likely that if it delivers what it promises there should be a ready market for the modest 250 cars a year planned.
