The iconic Aston Martin DB5 – the ultimate ‘Bond’ car – returns to the screen in the new James Bond film, Skyfall, with Daniel Craig.

It’s not just an age thing – middle-aged men remembering Sean Connery as James Bond – that associates James Bond with Aston Martin. And especially the Silver Aston Martin DB5 seen in Goldfinger ( and Thunderball, Casino Royale, Tomorrow Never Dies and GoldenEye).

So it’s good to see that the makers of the latest Bond Film – Skyfall, with Daniel Craig back as Bond – have dug the DB5 out to sprinkle some Bond history fairy dust on Bond’s latest outing.

A Silver DB5 gas been spotted out in Glencoe (we tried to reach the photographer to run the actual photo, but he didn’t answer his phone so you’ll have to make do with the shot of the DB5 in Goldfinger, above) and by all accounts the DB5 is actually used in a car chase scene, rather than just being a bit of eye-candy.

Of course, this particular DB5 is almost certainly a doppleganger of the original DB5 – even though it sports the iconic BMT 216A number plate – as that car hasn’t been seen in public since the sixties. Another Bond DB5 – FMP 7B – was sold in late 2010 for £2.9 million, although that DB5 was actually a car used by Eon to promote the Bond films.

But, whatever the genesis of this Aston Martin DB5, it’s good to see it back where it belongs, in the hands of James Bond, 007.
