The Aston Martin DP-100 Vision Gran Turismo Concept

As design technology has evolved, it’s become properly practical for car makers to indulge their design flair in cars that will only ever really exist in the virtual world. And the latest creation comes from Aston Martin with the reveal today of the Aston Martin DP-100 Vision Gran Turismo Concept.

Developed in just six months by Aston Martin’s Design Team, the DP-100 Vision Gran Turismo boasts an 800bhp twin-turbo V12, is mid-engined (a first for Aston Martin) and, if it were real, would offer blistering performance.

Aston Martin went the same route with the DP-100 Vision Gran Turismo as they would with a real-world car, from hand sketches to 3D modelling and finally a full physical realisation.

But Aston Martin don’t see the DP-100 Vision Gran Turismo as just playing games, and have said that features such as the DP-100′s active aerodynamics and many design cues could feed through in to Aston Martin’s production models in the future.

Kazunori Yamauchi, the creator of Gran Turismo, said:

When I first came face to face with this car at the Aston Martin Headquarters in Gaydon, UK, I was at a loss for words seeing the level of perfection in its design.

I was surprised by the bold proposal of the car being the first midship layout model in Aston Martin history. And while it is clean and classy in design, it is also very emotional. Not only that, there was this future Aston Martin in front of me, that was so detailed it could be released on the market pretty much as is.

The Aston Martin DP-100 Vision Gran Turismo Concept may be only created for the virtual world, but Aston Martin will be unveiling (a non-working) full-size 3D display model at the Goodwood Festival of Speed so non-gamers can see what they’ve created.

The Aston Martin DP-100 Vision Gran Turismo Concept will be available to download for Gran Turismo 6 in July.
