Aston Martin Rapide S: The video

Sun, 24 Mar 2013

Ahead of the media launch of the Aston Martin Rapide S in Spain, Aston Martin has delivered a Rapide S video to pique interest.

Now we have the arrival of the Aston Martin Rapide S as a replacement for the Rapide, which goes a similar route to the DB9 with a more a aggressive attitude and more power.

Aston Martin revealed the Rapide S in January in an effort to inject some oomph in to Rapide sales – as a replacement for the Rapide and not as an ‘S’ model to sit above it – bestowing it with 550bhp instead of the Rapide’s 470bhp, chucking in a new grill and boot spoiler and a set of the Gen 4 tweaks like adaptive dampers.

It all adds up to a more appealing Rapide than before, with much better performance and a more aggressive look, without destroying the Aston Martin beauty that really is its USP.

Now, with the Rapide S about to get its global media launch in Spain, Aston Martin has rolled out new video of the Rapide S - resplendent in Mako Blue with Spectral Blue interior – to keep us interested in the new Rapide S – and show it on the move.

But, frankly, there is no point trying to compare the Rapide S with the competition, because if you do it loses.

It loses against stuff like the Porsche Panamera Turbo, and it’ll lose against the new Jaguar XJR too. It’ll even get stuffed by cars like the Mercedes CLS, and even more ‘common’ four door coupes will give it a bit of a seeing to on the performance front.

No, at £150k it’s comprehensively stuffed by just about anything else you might consider offers comparable performance on price, leaving the only reason to buy a Rapide S its glorious looks.

Thankfully, for Aston Martin, that’s still enough of a draw for many.
