Audi A7 Sportback Competition gets 322 bhp

Audi has decided that a fitting way to celebrate 25 years of turbodiesel Audis is to create a special edition A7 Sportback with added power. Seems reasonable. So we get the Audi A7 Sportback Competition which comes with the regular 3.0 litre BiTurbo diesel but with just a little bit more oomph with 322bhp and 479lb/ft of torque – just 6bhp up on the normal lump.

But the performance of 0-62mph in a scant 5.1 seconds – and a top speed of 155mph – is aided by an overboost function that delivers an additional 20bhp on full throttle thanks to tweaks to the turbos and camshafts.

Which is impressive performance from a 3.0 litre diesel, and although it’s not as quick as the S7 – and runs out of breath much lower down the rev range – the A7 Competition diesel does have an ace up its sleeve; economy of 46.3mpg when you’re not flooring the throttle to get the overboost to kick in.

With a standard Audi Sportback S-Line bodykit, the Competition can be had in a choice of red, blue or grey and gets 20″ black alloys, red calipers and a lower ride height than a regular S7.

It’s a good package and a great compromise between performance and economy, but it’s not cheap.

Audi UK hasn’t yet decided if the UK is getting the A7 Sportback Competition, but if it is offered it’s likely to cost around £60k as it cost €72k in Germany.
