Audi R8 V10: R8 V10 Challenge Extreme Edition by STaSIS launched

Tue, 29 Mar 2011

Audi R8 V10 Challenge Extreme Edition by STaSIS Engineering gives 710bhp.

There’s not a lot wrong with the Audi R8 V10. In fact, if you want a supercar you can use everyday you pretty much have a choice between the Audi R8 and the Porsche 911.

There’s not a lot wrong with the R8 V10′s performance either. Despite being so well bolted together you can treat is just like you’d treat your A3 diesel, it’ll get to 62mpg in 3.9 seconds and on to 197mph or dawdle in traffic with equal ease.

But for some an Audi R8 at a bit over £100k and with performance that will shame many supercars with far more highfalutin pedigrees is not enough. They want to douse it with large wads of the folding stuff.

Audi are more than happy to take the mug-punter’s wedge for daft extras. One look at the options list on the R8 tells you Audi has taken inspiration from Ferrari and Lamborghini with their pricing, rather than from the aforementioned A3 diesel.

You can spend stupid amounts extra on the R8 V10 with stuff like carbon fibre and bespoke luggage and extended leather and…

But Audi don’t do more performance as an option. Step up US aftermarket tuner STaSIS Engineering and their UK distributor, APS of Brackley

STaSIS Engineering produces the ultimate go-faster kit for the R8 V10 – the Audi R8 V10 Challenge Extreme Edition. For £45k (inc VAT and fitting at APS, you’ll be delighted to know) you get an Eaton Supercharger – and ancillaries to match – which ups the power of the R8 V10 to 710bhp and 523lb/ft of torque.

That’s enough to drop the 0-60mph to 3.1 seconds and make even the 911 Turbo S look on with trepidation.

Cosmetically the tweaks amount to nothing more than a new set of ultra-light alloys, so the whole thing is rather subtle.

If far from cheap.
