Audi TT SUV concept: official sketches

Wed, 09 Apr 2014

Audi is set to reveal an all-new SUV concept car based on the Audi TT at the Beijing Motor Show.

The new Audi concept will be the second time the brand has floated the idea of a TT-style SUV this year, following the unveiling of the Audi Allroad Shooting Brake show car at January’s Detroit Motor Show.

The new Audi SUV concept will have more of an ‘off-roader’ feel than the Shooting Brake, and so will take its styling cues from the Audi Q-model SUVs, as these images show.

Audi’s official sketches also reveal that the concept will have a dashboard layout that’s almost identical to the hi-tech new Audi TT’s – emphasising the idea that the German brand is keen to expand its TT lineup.

If it were to make it to production, the new SUV would be most likely to share the same VW Group chassis – known as MQB – as the latest TT uses. It’s also rumoured to be pitched as potential competition for the latest small sporty SUVs such as the new Porsche Macan and forthcoming BMW X4.

There are few official details at the moment, but we understand that the new car is a plug-in hybrid, and uses the electric motor to drive the rear wheels, to make it effectively an ‘e-tron quattro’. It’s also the first Audi to incorporate inductive charging, a form of wireless recharging for the car’s batteries.
